Checkpoint Charlie was the most famous checkpoint on the Berlin wall. Amazingly it is almost
impossible to even see where the wall ran now. Berliners were anxious to erase any evidence
of it. There is a outstanding museum there that shows the many imaginative ways that people
were smuggled across the border. When I visited the museum had erected a replica of a short
piece of the wall with a memorial to all those killed trying to cross it. There was divided public
opinion about this; many Germans would rather have no physical reminders of the wall.
